April

April seemed to fly by super fast - just like the spring has done! We enjoyed having Andrew home before he started his new job in May. Kate visited family in Houston over her spring break, Grace started walking & stopped crawling all together, & we celebrated my last birthday in my 20's. All in all it was an uneventful month, just enjoying the family life!

Kate & Grace seem to have a love/hate relationship with one another & the feeling seems to be mutual. They tolerate each other sometimes, but both annoy the other one greatly. Kate is such a big help with Grace, it is nice to have her help as Grace is a super BUSY little person & always into everything! When you try to kiss Grace & she doesn't want to be kissed, you get this look followed by her trying to scratch your face... needless to say, we have all been scratched & those finger nails are razor sharp.

Grace decided she was too big for her highchair & moved into the booster chair. She likes sitting at this table with the rest of the family & feeding herself off her place mat, which she will throw on the floor when she is done. Violet always sits at her feet & waits. If Grace sees her down there, she will always share her food with her. What a nice babylove!

I will eat ANYTHING, seriously!

Not sure why I posted all these pictures of her eating, but this was at Kate's birthday sleepover party, so she got to sit at the table with the big girls. All of Kate's friends are so sweet to Grace, as none of her friends have baby siblings. I have heard from Kathryn that everybody likes the baby the best because everyone says how cute she is constantly. I asked her if she would prefer to have an ugly little sister & I haven't heard anything since.

(I will post Kate's birthday pictures in May, since that is technically her birthday month).

I am so cute! At least my parents think so!

Playing in our room with the block sorter. Busy little bee! Definitely belongs in this family, when she gets frustrated with something she throws it - sad to say, but I probably still do that sometimes too...

Sophie the giraffe still a favorite!

I'm a happy girl!
I love this beautiful face! It's only natural to think you have the cutest baby in the whole wide world, but I do for sure!!!

We like to look through books & photo albums of family. We read the same books to her everyday that are her favorite & then a few different ones too. She is a very interactive reader making animal sounds & pointing things out when asked to. Smart babylove! She signs more than she talks, but she definitely understands English & everything we say to her. Ready for her to start talking more because I love the age of mixed short sentences in baby talk. So cute!

Grace is a great dog owner & helper! She remembers everyday to give Violet her glucosamine treat (multiple times a day actually).

Sweet smiles! I noticed the wires hanging down from the kitchen desk in the background... looks sloppy & will need to be fixed immediately. Funny how sometimes you don't notice things until you see them in a picture.

My girls on Easter morning before church!

Again with the smiles that melt a Mommy's heart (and Daddy's too)!

Grace got a bink link in her Easter basket because she is always throwing her binkie in the car & while we're out & then she wants it back. Yuck! It's a game though, so we thought this would help... nope, she knows how to take it off her shirt, so now she just throws the binkie & the bink link together. Little stinker!

Play cookware (made out of recycled plastic by Green Toys). We put this stuff in the cabinet in the kitchen because she likes to unload cabinets. Finding things to keep her busy is sometimes a challenge because she would rather play with non-toys than any of her real ones.

Kate is on Nancy Drew book #15. She is really blossoming in her desire to read on her own. Dad is still really good at reading to both his girls separately at night. Kate will have multiple novels we/she is reading at a time now. Can't believe she will be in sixth grade next year, which is the last grade in elementary school here. I still remember her being Grace's age like it was yesterday. She is such a good girl, we are so proud of her!

Kate hid the eggs this year for Grace. She even walked her around & was very patient in helping her find them all. I love when they are sweet to one another. Kate does such nice things for her baby sister, Grace doesn't always appreciate them, but we think it's sweet.

Watching Grace unload her Easter basket. Just like with Christmas stockings, Kate let Grace go first. It's moments like these that I hope I remember forever. What a huge blessing we have been given to raise these beautiful, healthy, intelligent girls. Praise the Lord for all our many blessings!

My piggy baby eating strawberries in the middle of the kitchen floor.

It's empty, refill please Mom!

Now eating cuties (clementines), which she loves & eats multiple everyday. She goes to the fridge & points for you to open, then she gets into the fruit drawer & picks out what she wants. She will attempt to peel the cutie herself, get frustrated & bite through the skin to start it. She prefers this method to letting someone else start it for her.

Yummy yummy!

My bowl is empty! Can I have more please? No, says Mom, I think you've had enough to eat right now, let's go play.

Cue the tears - I don't like that answer!

She also goes to the kitchen pantry & picks out whatever snack she wants; and if you're not right there, she will dump the entire box of whatever it is on the floor.

Enjoying a yummy granola bar! And just for the record, she likes wearing her flower hats & bows. I ask her when she gets dressed for the day if she wants wear a bow or flower in her hair - response is always "uh-huh!" I give her a few options, she picks one out for me to put on her, & then she admires herself in the mirror. I always tell her that she looks very pretty & I get another "uh-huh!"

Helping unload the dishwasher. Gracie is a big helper & likes to help with household duties. I will ask her if she wants to help me _______ and she will always answer "uh-huh!"

Helper babylove!

Looking cute as always!

A baby that likes to clean, a girl after my own heart!

She has also made it her job to get the soap tablet from underneath the sink when the dishwasher is dirty, load the soap caddy & close the little door, and then she helps you close the dishwasher & presses the button to start it. She is one busy little person, but is easily directed.

She doesn't quite get how fragile glass is yet, so you have to be on your toes, otherwise she will throw the plate or glass. It is just amazing to me how a year ago she was just a tiny little baby. A baby grows so fast in the first years of life, what a miracle life is to watch! It is in the mundane daily tasks of life where we find the most gratification, especially in parenting. -SR

March

March was pretty uneventful. I really can't complain, as we had a lovely month spending time together as a family - nothing better in my book! Kate flew to Texas over her spring break to visit family. She had a great time, as always, I'm sure being spoiled had nothing to do with it. ;)

Her cousin Ethan was doing a project for school where he was suppose to send Flat Stanley, basically a paper doll, on an adventure & have the person write a letter about their time together. Ethan sent him to Katie & here she is posing with him before we left for the airport. These pictures are slightly out of order, as usual, so this picture was after Flat Stanley had to visit the hospital for a broken leg...

And who was the culprit?

A certain somebody, who likes to meddle, found Flat Stanley & broke his leg. Nurse/Aunt Sarah took him to work with her & got him all fixed up with a cast.

Swimming with Daddy in the lazy river at the rec center. I probably took 15 pictures & couldn't get any good ones of her looking at the camera. Mom is too slow (correction - Mom's camera is too slow)!

Kate & her friend Paige playing in the lazy river too!

Every time they came around, I tried again. Grace had lots of fun, she didn't want to get out (imagine that).

Gracie's swim suit is so cute! It is brown with blue polka dots & ruffles. I brought a bow that matched, but wasn't allowed to put it on her (per Daddy). Apparently she doesn't need a bow wherever she goes (I tend to disagree).

Mischievous little person!

See what big messes I make pulling anything & everything out of cabinets! I am sure we took something away that was unsafe here, cue the tears - how sad:( In the last week she has started screaming if she doesn't get her way... Ummm, NOPE, sorry kiddo, never worked for your sister & it won't work for you either.

Grace absolutely loves Violet! Violet feels more of a love/hate relationship with her... loves when she feeds her/hates when she tries to touch her. It's actually quite amusing, Violet steers clear of Grace & acts scared of her at all times unless she has food - then I guess she is willing to risk it. We can't quite get through to Grace to not give Violet bites of her food & then continue to eat it.

But she does most of the time anyway.

She dumps out my work back on a daily basis. That may be kind of gross; who knows what nasty germs I bring home from the hospital.

Sometimes I think she asks for food just so she can feed Vi. We'll ask "are you really hungry?" Reply, "Uh-huh!" And then she feeds it all to Vi. Silly girl!

For a while there, Grace's hair was sticking straight up & out. I am happy to report that it is now long enough that it doesn't do that anymore, but it is longer in the back than in the front, giving her hair a mullet type look to it... Andrew keeps asking me when we can trim it?

Walking around furniture (she actually is fully walking now, a little bow legged, but pretty cute I think). Busy, busy!

Loves to look out the window! Sometimes she sees the bunny that lives in our front yard.

She frequently goes over to the stairs & sits down on the bottom step because she knows she is allowed, but then when she thinks no one is looking...

She takes off! We climb up & down the stairs for fun multiple times a day.

Love this age! -SR
